Frequently Asked Questions
What happens at the Beta Alpha Psi weekly meetings?
At our weekly meetings, we invite professionals to discuss a variety of topics (a day in the life at their firm, financial markets, industries they work with, and more). This gives our members the opportunity to learn about the different career paths, ask questions to people currently working in the industry, and to network directly with recruiters and professionals every week.
What types of companies/firms are connected with Beta Alpha Psi?
Our professional meetings are geared towards jobs within the accounting, finance, and information management industries. Additionally, at our Meet the Firms networking event there are roughly 30 to 40 high ranked companies/firms. Visit our "Professional Partners" page (under the About section) and our Spring 2023 schedule (under our Members section) to learn more about who will be visiting us this semester.
What does the application process entail?
In order to be admitted into our chapter as an associate, every prospective student will go through the application process. First, complete the application on our website (Join > Application). Next, submit your unofficial transcripts via our website (Join > Submit Transcripts). Having completed these steps, you will then receive an email letting you know if you were selected for an interview. On this email, there will be a link to a form where you will select an interview time (NOTE: These are filled on a first come, first serve basis). After your interview, your information will be reviewed by executive team members and faculty advisers, and decision emails will follow soon after!
What are the requirements in order to become a full member?
In order to be successful within Beta Alpha Psi, attendance to weekly meetings and events is key. We strive for a sense of community within the society.
What is the difference between pledge and an associate?
Pledge status allows you to become a member if you complete the requirements. As a member, your fees are lowered and you will be recognized as a full member of Beta Alpha Psi. Associate status is for students who have completed BCOR 2000, but not enrolled in ACCT 3220. This status allows you to attend meetings and events under the same attendance requirements as a pledge, but you are not allowed to professionally affiliate with the chapter (i.e. list it on your resume).
I'm a transfer student and took my Intermediate Accounting course at a different University/Community College. Is this an issue?
As long as the course is beyond introductory to accounting, it will count at the ACCT 3220 requirement. Feel free to reach out if you have any personal questions about transcripts.
